Arar organizes efforts to deliver medicines to the elderly during the quarantine.

Elderly people are more susceptible to infection, particularly during outdoor activities. To prevent the elderly from leaving their homes, 10 community volunteers, with their own cars, delivered medications to the recipients’ homes. Over one month, a total of 2354 deliveries were made.

The initiative was funded through national/regional sources, and supported in-kind through the provision of delivery vehicles and fuel by volunteers.

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Khalid bin Sultan, Governor of The Northern Borders, stated the following: “You are one of the symbols of the homeland with your generosity and loyalty.”

The initiative aimed to decrease the rate of infection among the elderly by limiting their outdoor exposure. Regarding post-pandemic prospects, the initiative highlighted the importance of volunteering and community participation to maintain the health of society. The community became more familiar with “Healthy City Program” concepts and services, in terms of how they can participate in it and benefit from it.

The initiative also reinforced the community’s confidence in the effectiveness of health services. This will lead to a “better normal” in the city post-pandemic.

The initiative yielded the following results:

  • Completion of 2354 delivery requests.
  • Reduced outdoor exposure among the elderly.
  • Improving community satisfaction with health services.
