The delivery of essential medications to patients suffering from chronic diseases constitutes the scope of this initiative's services.
Around 13,256 patients with chronic diseases that required prescribed medications were prevented from visiting refill clinics due to preventative measures in place during the COVID-19 outbreak. Therefore, the scope of services provided revolve around the delivery of prescribed medications for better disease prevention
This initiative was performed for the purpose of promoting public health, sustainability, and community participation. Additionally, it was primarily funded by donors. This initiative also tackles themes pertinent to older populations, the workplace, mobility/transport, and disease prevention. The initiative targets vulnerable individuals with chronic diseases.
The initiative was launched on March 30, 2020 for six weeks and will continue through the establishment of a partnership with the Peace Relief and Emergency Association.
The initiative aimed to support the MOH in minimizing patient flow and overcrowding in pharmacies, and it contributes to the flattening of the COVID-19 curve by increasing social distancing.
This was achieved by training volunteers to prepare them to deliver medications to the homes of patients, the successful delivery of medications, the reduction of overcrowding in pharmacies, and the achievement of maximum volunteer hours with positive business cost implications.
The post-pandemic prospects of this initiative revolve around the encouragement of volunteer work, an increase in volunteering in times of crisis and improvement in the resilience of the community during emergencies.
