Saudi Arabia's 'Hayah For Dialysis' initiative provides essential healthcare for patients suffering from renal failure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Hayah initiative was launched with the intention of promoting health and sustainability and promoting social responsibility by driving community participation.
Services provided through this initiative revolve around haemodialysis, monthly lab investigations pertinent to renal failure and quarterly lab investigations for all patients suffering from complications such as AV fistula blockages.
The initiative cost approximately SR 800,000, and was funded by various donors. Furthermore, the Medical Nephrology Supervisory committee has agreed to ensure that all patients received high quality services. The outcomes of these services will be assessed based on pre- and post-intervention evaluations of the patients’ quality of life.
The initiative was launched on June 1, 2020 for three months and will continue through the establishment of an association dedicated towards renal dialysis services.
The goal of the initiative was to support poor non-Saudi residents with renal failure who are on haemodialysis, and those affected by the corona pandemic who were unable to return to their countries.
'Hayah For Dialysis' introduces a slew of post-pandemic prospects that revolve around the promotion of volunteer-work within the community, an increase in the number of donors within the health and crisis management areas, and improved community resilience during times of emergency.
The initiative's results are as follows:
Overall assessment of outcomes will be published by October 31st, 2020.
