Kuwait’s First Virtual Capacity-Building Workshop for Healthy Cities

Health Profile Development

January 17—19 2021, The Healthy Cities Office, in a collaborative effort with the WHO Regional Office, organized a workshop on the development of health profiles for Healthy Cities. Interactive workshops are among the efforts undertaken by the Healthy Cities Office to advance implementation standards pertinent to Healthy Cities. In recognition of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health’s efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop was held over Zoom and was specifically geared towards the context of Kuwait. The workshop occurred over a three-day period from the 17th to the 19th of January, and it targeted workers in Kuwait’s healthcare sector (doctors, specialists, and members of coordination committees). Dr. Samar El-Feky, who is responsible for the Community Based Initiatives (CBI) department at EMRO, was among the WHO representatives who contributed to the workshop with specialized guidance and advice. Additionally, Dr. Nizar Abdulrahim El-Faki attended within his capacity as advisor for health policies, systems, human resources and planning, and the WHO’s expert in the field of Healthy Cities. Attendees also include Dr. Sanaa Al-Ali, who is responsible for the management of electronic patient records, and a representative of the National Center for Health Information, the Dean of the College of Public Health at Kuwait University, and representatives of the Geographic Information Sector at the Public Authority for Civil Information.

Participants were also briefed on the experiences of the Yarmouk area and Abdullah Al-Salem region. The workshop consisted of a total of 14 training hours attended by 120 participants, and it is an accredited component of the Continuing Education Program at the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization.
